At the Division of Stem Cell Transplantation, diagnoses and treatments for hematopoietic malignancies are provided. They are all “blood cancers” in other words, including leukemia, malignant lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndrome, multiple myeloma and myeloproliferative disorders, are provided. Many of the patients at this division are in young generation, but but the cases of complete cure have been increasing lately due to the high efficacy in chemotherapy and the advancement of the treatment method including “hematopoietic stem cell transplantation,” which is to replace cancerous hematopoietic cells with healthy ones.
This is a clinical division where diagnoses as well as all kinds of treatment for hematopoietic malignancies are provided. They include not just anti-cancer drug therapy but hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. This is the only one medical institution officially certified for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in the eastern Shizuoka region, and the number of the transplantation cases is one of the biggest in Japan.
We adopt newly-developed anti-cancer drugs for the treatment as clinical tests, and at the same time, promote clinical studies to improve the outcomes of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In addition, we participate in basic studies in collaboration with the Shizuoka Cancer Center Research Institute.
We basically practice specialized and very effective medicine here aiming at complete cure. Since most of the treatments are provided at the outpatient clinic, making regular visits itself can impose physical strains on the patients sometimes depending on their conditions and symptoms.
