At the Division of Stem Cell Transplantation, diagnoses and treatments for hematopoietic malignancies, i.e., “blood cancers” including leukemia, malignant lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndrome, multiple myeloma and myeloproliferative disorders, are provided. Many of the patients at this division are in young generation, while the cases of complete cure are increasing these days. It’s mostly because chemotherapy can be quite effective for blood cancers in general, and “hematopoietic stem cell transplantation” technology, which is to replace cancerous hematopoietic cells with healthy ones, has been advancing lately.
This is a clinical division where all kinds of treatment for hematopoietic malignancies, including anti-cancer drug therapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, as well as diagnoses for them, are being provided. As this is the only one medical institution in the eastern Shizuoka region officially certified for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, the number of the transplantation cases is one of the biggest in Japan.
We do not only adopt newly developed anti-cancer drugs for the treatment as clinical tests, but also promote clinical studies to improve the outcomes of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In addition, we participate in basic studies in collaboration with the Shizuoka Cancer Center Research Institute.
We basically practice specialized and effective medicine here aiming at complete cure. As most of our patients who come here for the treatments are the outpatients making regular visits, the visits themselves can impose physically strains on them sometimes depending on their conditions and symptoms. Therefore, a decision about being referred here from another hospital should be carefully made, giving enough thoughts to what will be the advantage of coming here as well as to your current doctor’s opinions.
