At the Division of Stem Cell Transplantation, we provide diagnosis and treatment for hematopoietic malignancies. In other words, these are all "blood cancers," which include leukemia, malignant lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndrome, multiple myeloma, and myeloproliferative disorders. While many patients in this division belong to the younger generation, full recovery rates have been increasing recently; this is due to highly effective chemotherapy and advancements in treatment methods, such as "hematopoietic stem cell transplantation," which replaces cancerous blood-forming cells with healthy ones.
This is a clinical division providing comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for all types of hematopoietic malignancies. Our services encompass not only conventional anti-cancer drug therapies but also advanced hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. We are the only medical institution officially certified for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in the eastern Shizuoka region, and our annual transplant volume ranks among the largest in Japan.
We adopt newly developed anti-cancer drugs through clinical trials while simultaneously promoting clinical studies to improve the outcomes of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In addition, we actively participate in basic research in collaboration with the Shizuoka Cancer Center Research Institute.
We practice highly specialized, advanced medicine aimed at achieving a full recovery. Because the majority of our treatments are provided on an outpatient basis, making regular clinic visits can sometimes place a physical strain on patients, depending on their condition and symptoms.
