As Covid-19 is now classified as Category V Infectious Disease just as influenza, we have decided to withdraw the measures exclusively for it, and updated the rules for the number of accompanying persons with outpatients and visitors to the wards accordingly.
However, if a cancer patient gets infected, whatever the virus or the bacterium is, the risk for suspending his/her cancer treatment or for increasing in severity due to his/her lowered immune level will be very high.
Therefore, please read the following carefully, and observe our rules. Thank you for your understanding.
Hiroyuki Ono, M.D., Ph.D., Director, Shizuoka Cancer Center Hospital
(As of December 1, 2025)
1. Wear a non-woven disposable mask all the while in the hospital building, regardless of whether you have the symptoms or not. Keep on wearing a mask when you stay in the hospital as an inpatient, too. Bring the masks from home when you are admitted.
2. If you are scheduled to have a surgery and be admitted to the ward soon, you should be extremely cautious not to catch any infections, avoiding the crowd and wearing a mask when you engage in a conversation.
It is often the case where the infection spreads from a family member living in the same household. Family should be cautious in the same way as a cancer patient, too.
3. When you enter the hospital building, let the medical staff read your temperature, and rub your hands together with alcohol for disinfection.
4. Fill in the health check form at the reception when you enter.
5. Small children (elementary-age children or younger) are not allowed to enter the hospital building unless they are the patients themselves.
6. If you have a fever (37.5 degrees C or higher) not being able to lower it for 2 days, or any respiratory symptoms (cough, phlegm, discomfort in the throat), please call the hospital (055-989-5222) before you come to the hospital. (* The operator speaks Japanese only. Please ask a Japanese-speaking person to call for you.)
7. For a patient who has tested positive for Covid-19 or proven as a close contact, we have our own waiting period rules as a medical institution. Please see below for the rules. You should try to stay away from direct contacts even with your family during the waiting days.
| When tested positive (even with no Covid symptoms) | For an outpatient scheduled to meet the doctor or scheduled to be admitted: Wait for 7 days from the onset, until the conditions are improved and stable, and the temperature is lowered. |
|---|---|
| For an inpatient: Wait for 7 to 10 days from the onset, until 24 hours have passed since the conditions got improved and stable without oxygen inhalation, and the temperature has been lowered. | |
| When proven as a close contact | Wait until 5 days have passed since the last contact with the person with Covid-19. |
Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation.
